What are the Five Solas?
The Five solas are five Latin phrases that summarize the Reformation's view of justification.
¶ What does it mean?
One of the greatest truths the Reformation recovered was the Biblical understanding of justification. The Reformers viewed justification as a declaration by God that a sinner is righteous in his sight, just like a judge declaring someone as not guilty. This is a one-time event that happens at the beginning of a believer's walk in Christ. The Five Solas answer how a sinner is justified before God. It can be expressed in this sentence: We are justified by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, according to Scripure alone, to the glory of God alone.
